This foundational course introduces students to the sacred spiritual heritage of the Igbo people, known as Ọdịnala. Designed for beginners, it offers a step-by-step understanding of key concepts, deities, rituals, sacred tools, ancestral beliefs, and the structure of spiritual practice. Whether you are returning to your roots or seeking deeper awareness, this course guides you through the pillars of Igbo spirituality — from Chi (personal spirit) to the divine forces, market days, and sacred laws that govern cosmic harmony.

Module 1: Introduction to Ọdịnala
• What is Ọdịnala? • Igbo cosmology and worldview • The spiritual vs religious structure of the Igbo system

Module 2: The Divine Hierarchy – The Pantheon of Igbo Deities
Chukwu (Supreme Spirit) Alusi (Deities): Ala, Amadioha, Agwu, Anyanwu, etc. Ndi Ichie (Ancestors) and their role in guidance

Module 3: Sacred Items and Tools in Ọdịnala
Kola nut (Ọji) – its sacred role in communication and hospitality Oji Igbo vs. Oji Hausa – what to use and when Alligator pepper (Ọsịji) – cleansing and invocation Egg for Cleansing, appeasement, road opening and more White chalk (Nzu), camwood (Edo) and red chalk (Uhie) – symbols of purity and power Palm wine (Nkwu elu) – offering and libation Palm font and it's significance in odinala native incense and importance of candles Ofo and Ogu – spiritual authority and moral justification How and when to use these tools

Module 4: The Sacred Calendar – Eke, Orie, Afo, Nkwo (The Four Market Days)
Origin and spiritual significance of the four market days. Symbolism and energetic qualities of each day. How market days influence rituals, personality, and divination. Finding your birth market day and what it means. How market days govern community life and shrine activities.

Module 5: Personal Spirits – Chi, Agwu, and Ikenga
Understanding the Chi: Your personal divine spark. Introduction to Agwu: Spirit of vision, insight, and mental gifts. Introduction to Ikenga: Drive, progress, and personal willpower. The sacred triangle of destiny: Chi, Agwu, Ikenga.

Module 6: Communicating with the Spirits

Module 8: The Power of Ofo and Ogu – Truth, Justice, and Spiritual Authority
Meaning and role of Ofo (staff of truth and ancestral justice). Meaning of Ogu (innate truth and innocence). Ofo-na-Ogu as a code of conduct and spiritual protection. Using Ofo in rituals, declarations, and disputes.

Module 9: Taboos, Forbidden Acts, and Spiritual Consequences
Understanding nso ala (abominations). Types of taboos: personal, familial, and communal. Breaking taboos and their spiritual consequences. Cleansing, appeasement, and restoration rituals.

Module 10: Sacred Trees in Igbo Spirituality – Their Mystical and Ritual Power
Why are trees sacred in Igbo spirituality Identify the major sacred trees in Igbo tradition and their spiritual symbolism. Understand the use of trees in rituals, shrine construction, and spiritual medicine. Explore how to relate to trees spiritually and the taboos around them.
